It's been awhile since my last post. The class continues to move forward with their learning.
- We finished our class read aloud, Frindle. Be sure to ask your child about it. This book is one of my favorites!
- As a class, we used the Magic Tree House book Thanksgiving on Thursday, to ask and answer questions which is one of our 2nd grade targets. We completed the book the day before Thanksgiving break.
- Our writers finished publishing their narrative stories. We celebrated all the good writing by reading these pieces to our Kindergarten Reading Buddies. They are now in the class library for all to read.
- November 9th, my husband Kurt came in to speak to the children about Veteran's Day. He is a veteran who served 9 years in the Navy. He brought in some of his things to share with the children.
- Children took a quick assessment to check whether they could tell time to the hour and half hour. A target for 2nd grade is to tell time to the 5 minutes. Students have been working with volunteers to review if they have difficulty with hour and half hour. This is something you could easily practice at home.
- We began our Postcard Exchange by learning about our state of Maine. As a class, we wrote our postcard message that will be on the postcards we send out early in December. We have received many postcards from family members. It is so exciting for the children. Our first school postcard came from Virginia.
- We completed our 2nd unit in Everyday Math. After Thanksgiving, we will begin unit 3.
- We learned about Thanksgiving using Scholastic News and a virtual field trip to Plimouth Plantation. See what children knew about Thanksgiving before we started and some of what they learned below.
- In writing, the children had a fun and different way to defend what they are thankful for...see their writing on SeeSaw. They randomly picked their topic. They certainly had fun with this activity. After our break, we will begin our opinion writing.
